Service to the community can be more interactive than donating old clothes or asking for money. When teens get involved they build relationships with their community and develop a lifelong service ethic. A few easy TIPs will make your teens experience a meaningful one.

  1. Tap into your teens passion. Whether it is sports, music, art or cooking, when teens are doing what they like, great things happen.
  2. Take your schedule into account. If weekdays are filled with afterschool activities, plan to volunteer on weekend, and remember to make travel time and transportation part of the equation.
  3. Grab some friends. Teens want to socialize and there is no better way to socialize than volunteering to help your community.
  4. Get your kids involved in planning their project. Just like food tastes better when you cook it, service feels more satisfying when you have a hand in making it happen!
